Posted: 15 Oct 2011 10:30 AM PDT Walking quickly on to the stage, I tapped him on the shoulder before he could disappear into the dark confines of the corridor that led to the greenroom at NCPA. ‘The Carlton Kitto Jazz quartet’ is what had caught my eye as I read the paper in the morning. Could this be true? Was this the jazz legend I knew from the past? The king of swing from Kolkata? It had to be, but he must surely be in his 70’s by now, I told myself, as I continued to turn the pages of the newspaper..
Posted: 15 Oct 2011 06:52 AM PDT Who doesn’t love a friend who quietly waits while you get your frustration out, helps you relax by playing just the right music, updates you with the latest trends and perhaps makes sure your social life is within reach. I have found such a friend who with years has become my favorite buddy rather buddies. They are none other than my hi-tech gadgets. The one characteristic about my bestie that I love is the ability to upgrade them at my own convenience. It’s never too fast for me or..
Kishore and his songs remain evergreen Posted: 15 Oct 2011 06:48 AM PDT I am a huge Kishore Kumar fan. What can I say? The man was born to entertain! An amazing performer - there was nothing he wasn’t good at – acting , dancing, singing you name it – he could do it all! I grew up with his songs and he yet remains evergreen even in today’s contemporary generation. Very few know that the legend had a mischievous streak. My father (Ravi Tandon) as a producer had done so many films with him. I have great memories of all the amazing songs... I..
Isn’t friendship a matter of personal choice? Posted: 15 Oct 2011 06:46 AM PDT Life without friends can sometimes be better than life with friends especially if they are the wrong ones. Friendship has become a thing of convenience for most people. Relatives you can’t choose but friends are something you choose and it reflects on you. “One is known by the company one keeps” is an old saying but it still holds value. It is best to have well-wishers with whom you can have intellectual as well as emotional conversations. In friendship one tends..
Posted: 15 Oct 2011 06:38 AM PDT The passing away of Mr Jagjit Singh is indeed a big loss to 'mausiqi' as they say in Urdu. To say that he did absolute justice to music and lyrics would be the least. I remember when I first heard his song Hoton Se Chhu Lo Tum I felt that this song has a passionate yet tragic feel to it...I could not put my finger on on the exact emotion... until I saw Premgeet and discovered that it was sung for Anita Raj who was terminally ill with cancer... The lyrics did not state the facts but the way..
‘Why does he want a naked picture of me?’ September 26, Monday — Week 22 Posted: 15 Oct 2011 01:30 AM PDT Last week has been fun. I have been having late-late nights, and late-late mornings with my beau. I haven’t worked for a while, but I am still feeling like I am constantly on call. For a model, posing is work, and my man-of-the-moment is unluckily a photographer, and he’s always ready with a camera. No matter what the time of day, what I am wearing or what I am doing, he’s been clicking me in every angle. It’s flattering, but also a little unsettling, even though he..
If the RSS is behind Anna, his movement is nearly dead…. Posted: 14 Oct 2011 09:32 PM PDT Does it matter whether the RSS was behind Anna’s movement? Of course it does. Because the entire movement – which had been seen as apolitical till now – would then be called a political movement and the response of the people would be totally different. How many people would continue to support Anna if supporting Anna was seen as supporting the RSS/BJP? There have been many political movements against corruption and the public has always viewed them with suspicion...
